After three years abroad on a top-secret mission, Jason Whitaker returns home expecting to reunite with his wife and mother. Instead, he finds his mother crouched in a doghouse-like shelter, eating rotten food from a metal basin while a man mocks her and slaps her across the face.

Jason learns the man is Tyler Morgan, secretary to Emily Prescott, who now rules the capital. His mother, now blind, warns him that Emily has changed and torments her. Tyler boasts that Emily is pregnant with his child and demands Jason sign divorce papers and disappear with his blind mother.

Jason calls Emily, who does not recognize his voice, and summons her home within thirty minutes. He also calls his leader, who vows to punish those who abused a military family. As Emily arrives with bodyguards, Jason swears she will pay for what she allowed to happen to his mother.

With permission granted, I came home, filled with excitement, thinking I’d finally see my wife and mother again. But the moment I arrived, that joy was crushed.

At the entrance of my house, my mother was crouched inside a small, doghouse-like shelter. In front of her sat a metal basin. She was lying on the ground like a dog, eating rotten food from it.

A man stood nearby, watching her with a mocking smile.
