Caleb's parents were murdered in their home, and the family company was collapsing. When he begged his fiancée Ginger for help, she married a man named Finn instead. At his lowest, Ginger's sister Eleanor, a police captain, proposed to him at his parents' funeral, vowing to find the truth. The case went cold, and Caleb let Eleanor handle everything, eventually moving into her home.
Five years into the marriage, Caleb overhears Eleanor telling a colleague that Finn was the only real suspect in the Grant case, yet she buried it. She insists Finn is innocent, and that she has been true to her heart even if she betrayed her badge. Caleb later unlocks a hidden album on her phone: the entire case file, a thousand images, all pointing to Finn, stamped UNSOLVED, plus ten thousand photos of Finn in which Caleb's own face has been cropped out.
He books a flight, cancels his identity, and has a divorce agreement drawn up. At her precinct, he overhears Finn thanking Eleanor for saving him from prison. The marriage was built on a lie, and it is over.
