From the back cover

After the college entrance exams, Zoe Carter finds a post from a stranger who wishes he had chosen Psychology, so he would not have wasted four years on a "dead weight." The profile belongs to her childhood friend Luke Spencer, but his age is set ten years older. In his replies, he calls her a burden who clings to him out of guilt, and reveals that he has already given his heart, and a family bracelet, to another woman.

Zoe learns that her parents died in a landslide saving Luke, and that he resents the debt their sacrifice placed on him. She quietly accepts an offer from a university abroad, determined to end the mistake ten years early.

When Luke announces he may switch majors, Zoe calmly tells him to choose whatever he truly wants. Her distance unsettles him, and when Anna Stone calls, he leaves at once, while Zoe remembers how he once refused to bring her a bandage for a bleeding hand.
