After her father's sudden death, Stella believes her husband Leo, whose severe stutter and social anxiety have made him a family joke, simply failed to call for help in time. Relatives urge her to forgive him and move forward.
Sorting through her father's belongings, Stella finds a security recording: Leo speaking fluently to a woman named Zoe, calling her "babe," saying the old man is finally out of the picture, and rehearsing his stutter over her father's dying body before dialing 911. When she serves him divorce papers, Leo's sister Sarah and the whole family descend, insisting his illness excuses everything.
Then her father's lawyer reveals the will leaves everything to Stella, and the family's sympathy turns to flattery. As Zoe sends gloating photos, Stella quietly slips a power of attorney into a folder of contracts and hands it to Leo to sign.

My husband has severe social anxiety and a stutter.
When we went to City Hall to get our marriage license, he was so nervous he couldn’t say “I do.” We became a running joke for the clerks.
When my father had a sudden heart attack, I cried and begged him to call 911, but his stutter was so bad he couldn’t get the address out clearly. He delayed the paramedics past the golden hour of survival.
At my father’s funeral, my relatives all tried to console me.
