A few days ago, I discovered a problem.

Alice's boss kept calling her frequently.

After I pressed her about it.

Alice finally told me the truth, saying her boss appreciated her and was preparing to put her in charge of a major project alone.

If she could successfully complete this project, the performance bonus would be at least two hundred thousand dollars.

At first, I didn't suspect anything.

I simply thought Alice was excellent and it was normal for her boss to appreciate her.

Alice started leaving early and coming home late every day, always drunk when she got home.

After several days, we were like strangers.

"What is it?"

Alice stopped and looked at me questioningly.

"Who asked you out?"

"I just told you, didn't I? Mira broke up with her boyfriend. Since it's the weekend, I'm going to keep her company.

Mira and I might drink, so if it gets too late, I won't come back. I'll stay at Mira's place. I'm afraid she might do something foolish if she's alone. Don't wait up for me tonight—go to sleep when you're tired."

"Oh, okay."

"I'm leaving."

"Be safe."

"Okay."

Hearing the door close, my heart ached.

I knew Alice had a close friend named Mira.

Unfortunately, Alice didn't know that I had heard her entire conversation with Mira in the bathroom.

Alice told Mira.

If I called to ask, Mira should tell me that she had broken up with her boyfriend.

Without a doubt, Alice was making such thorough preparations in advance.

Who she was going to see was self-evident.
