When Aurora catches her husband Beckett cheating, her hysteria leaves her bleeding on the floor. He carries her to the emergency room and vows never to leave her side, but rushing out for her prescription, he is struck by an SUV and loses both legs. The trauma costs Aurora their baby and leaves her barren. Beckett chains himself to his wheelchair, refusing to stray from her sight, pricking his own skin with needles whenever temptation comes.
Until today. Aurora opens the door to find Hailey, their young live-in maid, kneeling before his wheelchair. Beckett turns on her instead of apologizing, calling the child they tried five years to conceive a mere inconvenience. Hailey claims she eases his tension each night after Aurora sleeps, and he calls it maintenance, not cheating. When Hailey weeps for protection, Beckett drags up the darkest trauma of Aurora's past to defend her.
Aurora unclips the iron chain and asks for a divorce. As she packs five years into a single suitcase, Hailey slips into the room to apologize.

The hysteria took over, and my body simply gave out. By the time I blacked out, I was bleeding out on the hardwood floor. Panic-stricken, he carried me to the emergency room.
At my bedside, Beckett wept, clutching my cold hands.
"Aurora, I’m so sorry. Just get better," he begged. "I’ll do anything. I’ll spend the rest of my life making this up to you. I will never, ever leave your side."

In his frantic rush to get my prescription filled, he ran out of the hospital lobby and was hit by an oncoming SUV. Both of his legs were crushed.
