When Lizzie tries to enrol her four three-year-old sons at preschool, the office tells her the boys do not exist. Every document was handled by her husband, Sheldon Clem, and now she finds him holding Riley Anderson, his childhood sweetheart, and her daughter Gigi, promising them a penthouse overseas and a will that leaves everything to them. Sheldon never went bankrupt; he has been draining the family's savings for Riley all along.

Back home, Sheldon announces an overseas project and asks Lizzie to refinance the house, moving her and the boys into a basement apartment. She agrees, then copies the files from his briefcase and offers them to his biggest rival, Ken Clayton, demanding that Sheldon be left flat broke and half the profit.

When Sheldon snatches her sons' ice cream and orders her to apologise to Gigi, Lizzie holds her tongue and waits for the deal to bring him down.
