After My Secret Husband Chose Her Over Me

From the back cover

For three years, Tracey Galloway has been Patrick Sanchez's secret wife, waiting for the day he would finally make their marriage public. That day arrives, but so does Edith Pruitt — the former girl-group member and first love Patrick never got over — cornered by reporters in the company's underground parking garage. Patrick steps in, claims fatherhood of Edith's child, and drops to one knee with a silver ring, promising to marry her while Tracey watches from the car.

When Edith slips into the back seat of Patrick's Rolls-Royce, he introduces Tracey only as his wife, then turns his cruelty on her — slamming the window shut and berating her for exposing a woman who just gave birth to cold air. Tracey, a nurse, remembers when that same ferocity was once used to defend her.

As Edith speaks of returning for someone important, Tracey notices Patrick's white-knuckled grip on the wheel and wonders how much of her husband still belongs to another woman.
