From the back cover

A woman lives alone in a sparsely occupied new complex. On a rainy night at eleven, a caller warns that her car window is open and urges her downstairs. When a man's voice briefly breaks into the call, unease takes hold, and she contacts the property management office instead of going out.

A manager she knows, Wayne Shenton, answers and offers to check the car himself. Then the office's landline calls back with a warning: Wayne resigned last week. He knows her building, her unit, her name. When knocks sound at her door, she cannot tell whether the people outside are truly the property staff she summoned.

Alone behind a locked door, she must decide whom to trust before the night closes in.
