When Alaric misses their anniversary dinner to tend Aurora at a hospital, the System shows Elora his unguarded worry for the other woman and warns that refusing to let go will end in her death and harm to her family. Alaric refuses to transfer Aurora, calls Elora petty, then accuses her of spreading office rumors and drags her to Aethelgard Industries to clear her name.

As Aurora limps tearfully toward her, Elora must decide how much of a story she was never meant to survive she is willing to keep living.
