That was exactly why having him as my uncle made it worse.

Ethan Cole had lost both parents when he was young. Our families had always been close, so my grandparents took him in and raised him.

My mom was eleven years older than him. He called her Sis.

They’d grown up together. Later, my mom and dad fell in love and got married.

By the time I was old enough to run around, teenage Ethan Cole had started chasing my mom.

Trying to wreck my parents’ marriage would have been bad enough.

But right after my dad died, Ethan doubled down and moved straight into our house.

He’d been camped out there for years.

Smiling, he held up one knuckle.

Then he slipped it between my lips and pressed it against one of my canine teeth.

When he pulled it out, a faint tooth mark was left on his fingertip.

He waved it in front of me. “Look at that. The little toad has fangs.”

Immature. Stupidly, unbelievably immature.
