On her wedding day, a bride from a wealthy family watches her makeup artist deliberately ruin her face. The artist, Mandy, turns out to be the groom Ethan's ex, and the two are clearly still close. When the bride washes off the makeup and calls off the wedding, Mandy kisses Ethan and offers to take her place.

Ethan agrees, telling the bride to let Mandy stand in and to break the news to her parents so no one is embarrassed. He assumes she will swallow her anger for the sake of her family's business guests. But the bride knows the banquet's final payment falls to her family, and she is done being humiliated.
