I really didn't want to go back to that house, but I couldn't resist my dad’s emotional blackmail.

"Your grandmother only has so many years left. Is it wrong for her to want to see you?"

And so, having been away for barely three days, I went back.

But the moment I walked through the door, a girl threw herself at me.

I frowned and stepped aside, looking at her coldly.

Summer’s expression was aggrieved, her voice saccharine sweet.

"Summer, you're finally back! I missed you so much these past three days."

She was my dad’s step-daughter.

It was ironic. Even though my dad loved me fiercely and had transferred all the company stock to my name.

Even though he acted like his heart was breaking if he didn't see me for a day, that didn't stop him from marrying another woman and raising another woman’s child.

I didn't dislike Summer because of my dad; I disliked her because she was too fake.

I had caught her being malicious toward me several times, before she could shift her expression back to "innocent."

Seeing that I wasn't responding, she didn't get embarrassed. Instead, she turned to greet Silas standing behind me.

"Silas, isn't carrying all that stuff exhausting?"

她埋怨要看有上眼。

"Summer, you really shouldn't. Silas is a succubus you bought, not a house servant. Why are you making him do this kind of dirty, heavy work?"

I let out a soft sneer.

"Then you do it?"

The girl's expression froze for an instant. Silas looked at me, his eyes dark, but said nothing.

I was annoyed. I zipped straight back to my room, not wanting to look at Summer’s hypocritical face for another second.

So I didn't notice that behind my back, Silas gave Summer a faint smile and a nod.

At dinner, looking at Silas sitting next to me, my dad’s expression was very ugly.

"Just a fancy toy, and you carry him around like he's priceless."

The man beside me stiffened. I looked at my dad, feeling helpless.

Before I could open my mouth to defend Silas, Summer spoke up first.

"Dad, you can't say that about Silas. Even though he’s a succubus, he still has his dignity."

The man beside me moved, and I turned to look at him.

Silas was staring at Summer without blinking, his eyes full of gratitude.

I frowned, scrutinizing him. Was it my imagination? Why did it feel like my succubus had little stars in his eyes when he looked at Summer?

I found it almost amusing. I had spent a huge amount of money to buy him, I provided his food and clothes, I smashed tons of cash on him, and I was practically at his beck and call.

He said he couldn't accept me, so I didn't touch him.

Yet, in the end, it couldn't compare to Summer tossing out a random line of defense.

Summer, that little fake, was still chattering away without stopping. It was giving me a headache.

"Can you just shut up?"

When my words fell, the entire dining table sank into a weird silence.

My dad frowned at me, seemingly wanting me not to be so wilful. Summer’s mom continued eating as if nothing happened.

Summer looked at me aggrievedly, then looked at Silas, tears on the verge of falling.

Beside me came the sound of cutlery clattering against a plate. Then, Silas’s uniquely cold tone echoed across the table.

"Do you have to be so aggressive when you speak?"

Everyone present was stunned. After all, no one in this house dared to speak to me like that.

My dad slammed his hand on the table and stood up, his face red with anger.

"You’ve really spoiled him into being lawless! I’ve never seen a succubus talk back to his master like that!"

I wasn't angry. I just looked at Silas thoughtfully.

This man had been indifferent ever since I bought him.

It was like he was an emotionless robot.

I used to think that was just his personality, but suddenly I realized that wasn't it.

When I reprimanded my step-sister, his emotional swings were a bit too large, weren't they?

And the look he gave me was as cold as stagnant water, while the look he gave Summer held an indescribable ambiguity.

The meal ended unpleasantly. That night, no matter what, my dad wouldn't let me sleep in the same room as Silas.

"You need to let him go hungry for a bit, let him know who the master is!"

I was too embarrassed to tell my dad that Silas hadn't had a full meal since he arrived, and that he was the one actively refusing to eat.

That would be too humiliating.

In the middle of the night, I got thirsty and went downstairs for water, but I heard noises coming from the room next door.

I froze slightly.

Why did I hear a woman’s voice in Silas’s room?
