But her father Arthur brings home Charlotte, a sister six months younger, and the family's devotion shifts. Her piano room becomes Charlotte's dance studio; her brothers Caleb, Tucker and Rhys dote on the newcomer, and her boyfriend Maddox abandons her on an overpass on audition day to drive Charlotte to class. Naomi breaks up with him by text and walks away.

Returning home, she finds a party for Charlotte and no one remembers her audition. When Rhys threatens to give her room to Charlotte, Naomi surrenders it and leaves for the orchestra dorms, carrying her mother's dream with her.
