At eighty, a grandmother enjoys a generous pension and excellent health, until her granddaughter Emily calls for help catching a cheating husband. Cane in hand, she rushes to a hotel where Emily argues with the front desk over Jason's room number. When the staff refuse and lecture Emily about trusting her husband, the old woman lies on the floor and crawls, wailing about a black-hearted hotel until the manager gives in.

Upstairs, Jason is caught with a young massage worker. When he slaps Emily in front of onlookers, her grandmother beats him with her cane until police arrive. Half a month later, at the Dragon Boat Festival, Emily and Jason appear reconciled, and Emily is pregnant. Jason, who cannot cook, asks the grandmother to move in and cook for them.

She names her price: $550 a month, breakfast included. Jason objects that the market rate is lower, but she will not budge.
