After a promotion, Richard imposes a strict weekly rule at home: every Friday night is his "Silent Time," when no calls, texts, or family drama may reach him. He calls it advice from a corporate wellness coach, and tells his wife Clara that a mature wife knows how to give her husband room to breathe.
One Friday, a gas leak fills the kitchen. Clara collapses, and their daughter Mia calls her father twelve times; each call is cut off. By morning Clara is gone, but Richard refuses to believe it, insisting she is faking to force him to break his rule. Even as Eleanor signs the death certificate, he sends money for a cake and tells Mia to bring her mother home.
Returning for her things, Mia finds the house arranged for Clara's return, and a new framed photo of Richard and Vanessa on the wall.
