When Chloe's six-year-old son Leo falls from a roller coaster and is rushed into surgery, she learns her husband Julian had lied about the boy's age to get him onto a ride meant for older children, all so he could stand in a bakery line with her stepsister, Hailey. At the hospital, Chloe signs the consent forms alone while Julian stays with Hailey, and her mother Eleanor blames her for the scene rather than asking about Leo.

By dawn the surgery ends with Leo still critical, and a specialist must be flown in. Chloe races home for his birth certificate, but the apartment lock no longer accepts Leo's birthday. Julian opens the door, shirtless, and admits the passcode was changed to Hailey's birthday by Eleanor, Richard and himself. Hailey is inside, wearing Julian's shirt and Chloe's slippers, while Leo's pillow and blanket sit in the trash.

Chloe has already emailed Julian the divorce papers she had drafted. Between a husband who chose Hailey and a mother who chose appearances, she must decide how much more she is willing to give.
