Love Can't Come Back, But My Life Can

From the back cover

On the day of their tenth wedding anniversary, Tommy shows Noelle a screen where her parents drown in the sea, telling her he has always been disgusted by her. He blames her for sending away Camilla Spencer, the assistant he calls his true love, and says her family must pay because Camilla lost her innocence and took her own life. Noelle dies of rage and grief.

She wakes to a cake marked with the number 8, back on their eighth anniversary and the first month Camilla joined the company. Tommy is sweet again, but Noelle knows his true face. She demands he fire Camilla and shows him evidence of her mistakes; he refuses and gives away Noelle's evening dress. Noelle secretly agrees to join another company in a month, asking for twenty percent of the shares and her information kept hidden.

At a dinner with important partners, Camilla replaces the hairy crabs with mango bobo and swaps Noelle's stored wine for Sprite and Coke. Tommy excuses her again. Noelle sees how Baldwin Group will decline under Camilla's influence.
