My Dead Boyfriend Came Back on the Seventh Night

From the back cover

At three in the morning, Ivy learns that her boyfriend Alex Fox drowned after sneaking into Nine Dome Skylight at night. Her terrified parents burn everything prepared for the engagement, smear glutinous rice flour over her, and warn her not to leave the house for seven days and seven nights so the dead will not cling to her and drag her down.

On the seventh day, Alex's body is brought back, bloated and no longer human. Yet he video-calls Ivy from outside her door, asking to be let in, and the hickey she left seven days ago is still on his neck. He will not show his face. Her mother, hearing the knocking, insists Alex is dead, that his face was destroyed, and that he came back because he cannot let Ivy go.

Trapped alone in her room, Ivy refuses to open the door while Alex's apologies turn to fury and he threatens to climb the wall. Then the funeral home finds the coffin empty, and wet footprints lead away from it.
