Reading settings
At eighteen, my younger sister was left in a vegetative state after a car accident.
The system approached me and promised to wake her immediately if I entered a series of infinite dungeons and completed its quests.
I agreed.
Before I left, I wanted to find someone to protect my sister, who was naturally frail.
The three Lane brothers stepped forward on their own, knelt before me, and swore they would take good care of Pearly.
I remembered how attentive they had been to her in the past, so I entrusted them with the internationally renowned Chase Group and gave them a warning.
“Until I return, your only task is to keep Pearly happy. If any of you dare make her shed even a single tear…”
I left the rest unsaid, but everyone around us went pale and lowered their heads even further.
I fought my way through the infinite dungeons for six years and finally cleared every quest.
When I returned to the real world, I immediately checked my sister’s location.
But the tracking system showed that Pearly was in the slums!
* * *
I rubbed the location tracker on my watch and smiled. Six years had passed, yet my little sister was still as kind as ever.
Just as before, she spent every spare moment bringing supplies and staff to orphanages and slums.
Since we had not seen each other in six years, I wanted to surprise her.
That was why I did not head straight to her location.
Instead, I called Fabian Lane.
He answered after three rings, his voice arrogant.
"Who is this?"
I raised an eyebrow.
As far as I remembered, the Lane family was only a third-rate family.
They were not even important enough to do business with Chase Group.
The three Lane brothers were supposedly Pearly's childhood friends, but in reality, the Lane family had sent them over to curry favor with Chase Group.
When we first met, the three brothers were timid and nervous. Fabian, in particular, had worn a fawning smile almost every day.
Six years had passed. It seemed power and wealth had treated him well. There was no trace of his former submissiveness in his voice.
I spoke coldly.
"I'm at Entrance A of the Chase Tower. Send a car to pick me up within three minutes."
The other end fell silent. Then I heard a burst of frantic clattering.
A moment later, he asked cautiously.
"Kelly? You're—you're back?"
I hummed in reply.
The call ended abruptly, and he sent me a text.
[Kelly, please wait. I'll drive over to pick you up right away.]
The car arrived three minutes later.
Fabian got out of the driver's seat.
Finn Lane, his younger brother, and Freddy Lane, the youngest, followed him.
Once they were out of the car, the three brothers turned around, bent down, and gently led a young woman out.
Fabian smiled as he walked toward me.
"Kelly, let me introduce you. This is Cheryl Warren. She's currently interning at Chase Group."
I ignored the newcomer and looked over the three brothers with a frown.
"All three of you are here? Does that mean you let Pearly go to the slums alone to make the donation?
"What did I tell you before I left? No matter when or where, at least one of you must stay by Pearly's side to keep her safe!"
The smiles on the three men’s faces froze.
Cheryl bit her lip and spoke in a weak voice.
"Even if you're older and her sister, you can't keep using that to bully the Lane brothers!
"You demanded that they pick you up within three minutes, then scolded them without even finding out what happened.
"They're the people in charge of Chase Group. Don't you think you're being a little shameless?"
Her words were extremely offensive, yet none of the three Lane brothers tried to stop her.
Their expressions suggested that they even agreed with her.
My heart sank when I saw their reaction.
"Now, come with me to pick up Pearly."
I stepped toward the car, but someone reached out to block my way.
Cheryl looked at me with a provocative smile.
"On the way here, Fab and the others told me all about you. You're Pearly Chase's sister, right? She made a mistake and was sent to live in the slums for three years as punishment.
"Three years aren't up yet. There are still six days left, so you can't go pick her up!"
I stopped and repeated her words.
"The slums. Punishment. Three years?"
Then I raised my eyes and stared straight at the three Lane brothers.
"Is what she just said true?"
