From the back cover

After a car accident, Hazel lets her best friend Sienna talk her into pretending she has amnesia to test her boyfriend, Julian Vance. When Julian rushes to the hospital room, Hazel claims not to know him — and Sienna links her arm with his, calling him her own boyfriend. Julian hesitates, then confirms it. Hazel laughs and asks when they got together; he answers, the start of the year.

Sienna, her friend of fifteen years, then reveals she is pregnant and lists the lies: the Paris bag, his changed phone password, the anniversary he spent at a concert with her. Hazel, whose father is in prison and whose mother left, signs her own surgery consent form while Julian tends to Sienna's broken heel.

Hazel blocks them both and, a week after being discharged, returns home to pack — just as the door opens and laughter comes in.

Inside the book Opening excerpt

The day I got into a car accident, my best friend Sienna insisted I use it to test my boyfriend.

"Just say you have amnesia. See how he reacts."

Unable to argue with her, I nodded.

When Julian Vance rushed into the hospital room, looking anxious, I pretended not to know him.

"Who are you?"

The next second, Sienna linked her arm with his.

"Silly, this is my boyfriend. Don't you recognize him?"
