The day I regained my sight, I saw my boyfriend making out with another woman in front of me.

From the back cover

Three years ago, Serena pushed her boyfriend Brandon out of the path of a car and woke up blind. He swore to care for her for the rest of her life, and their life together seemed enviable. Then a high fever unexpectedly restores her sight, and she hurries home to share the news.

Through the crack of the door, she sees Brandon with another woman, Veronica. He panics, then relaxes, certain Serena still cannot see. He guides her to the bedroom with the same tender words, then returns to Veronica, who later mocks her openly. Overhearing their talk, Serena learns Brandon has always despised her blindness, the very blindness she suffered saving him.

When he swears he would never betray her, she says nothing of what she saw. She photographs his infidelity and keeps her recovered sight hidden, weighing what she now knows against the life he believes she cannot leave.
