From the back cover
Anna Miller lives under a mother who sees cruelty in every kindness she shows her little brother, Toby. When a takeout order arrives without the note "no peanuts," Victoria Miller blames Anna for endangering Toby. She fills a room with a hundred pounds of lilies and locks Anna inside, knowing Anna is severely allergic to pollen.
As Anna's throat swells and her breath fails, Toby pounds on the door and confesses that he took her phone and placed the order himself. Victoria refuses to believe him, calling it a lie Anna taught him. Neighbor Brenda Davidson demands the key, but Victoria flushes it down the toilet. Toby calls their father, Richard Miller, an allergy specialist, who rushes home with an emergency kit and finds the door still locked.
Trapped among the blossoms, Anna can only wait as her mother insists she is curing a monster's heart.
Inside the book Opening excerpt
While ordering food for my brother, I forgot one note, ‘no peanuts.’
My mother, Victoria Miller, bought a hundred pounds of fresh lilies and dragged them inside.
I am severely allergic to pollen.
She shoved me into the flower-filled room anyway and slammed the door shut behind me.
"How many times must I tell you? Your brother is allergic to peanuts!" she screamed. "You left it out on purpose! What kind of monster are you?
"You hate that I love him. Today, I'm curing your cruel heart!"
