A grave robber's family digs up a tomb on the summer solstice and finds a thousand-year-old Zombie Queen. The narrator, Leo, is sacrificed as her groom, sealed inside a coffin with her. He survives, and the Queen leads him to a trove of artifacts, but his brother Ethan, jealous of the wealth, blows him up with homemade dynamite.

Leo wakes on the day the tomb was opened. This time Ethan eagerly volunteers to be the groom, and their mother cuts his hand and seals him in the coffin. Leo flees the tomb, only to be blamed by his father for surviving instead of Ethan. At home, he begins plotting how to deal with the Zombie Queen, who once drained his life force nightly and was growing strong enough to reach into the morning sun.

That very night, the Zombie Queen appears at the family's house.
