From the back cover

Lennie Sherman works as a python handler at a zoo, and the white ball python in his care, Basil Lisk, seems to have it out for him. Every meeting ends the same way: a powerful tail to the private parts and a hiss right in his face. Worse, Basil has warned the other snakes to stay away from Lennie, leaving him an outcast among the animals he is meant to handle.

When Basil's scales flush bright red, Lennie panics and calls the vet, Dr. Philip Morgan, who finds the snake's heartbeat fast and erratic. The diagnosis is simple: it is mating season. Yet the two female snakes Lennie introduces as potential mates are struck and chased away, and Basil keeps pursuing Lennie instead.

After another strike, a tearful Lennie flees to his dorm, where a strange cool presence settles beside him in the heat of the night. Half-asleep, he murmurs that he likes Basil and asks whether the snake will lay eggs and have kids with him.

Inside the book Opening excerpt

My name is Lennie Sherman, and I am a python handler. However, I gradually realize that the python doesn't quite like me.

Every time we meet, it will always use its tail to hit my private part and then hiss in my face.

My name was Lennie Sherman, and I worked as the main handler for a male white ball python.
