For three hours, Sandra waits at a bus stop in a torrential downpour for her husband Hugh, who never arrives. After four years of marriage, she has stopped fighting for his attention.

Hugh forgets their anniversary, dismisses her hurt, and cannot even remember that her office moved. When he finally offers explanations, Sandra feels only exhaustion, not anger. She stops making his breakfast and stops waiting up for him, pouring herself into the project she leads at work instead.

Just as I was about to give up and call a car, I saw the message he’d sent five minutes earlier: Something came up. Can’t make it.

A second later, his assistant posted a photo to her Instagram story. The familiar dashboard of his car.

The caption read: *Thanks for the ride home, boss! ~*

The old me would have blown up his phone, calling and texting, demanding an explanation.

But now? I just tapped the screen and liked her post.
