From the back cover

During the fight for custody, a mother suddenly claims she is a villainess from a novel and remembers a past life in which her daughter, Luna, abandoned her for the father and his mistress, leaving her to die alone. This time she gives up custody first and adopts a girl whose parents died in a fire.

Living with her father, Luna is bullied by her stepsister Harper and sinks into severe depression. When she begs her mother for help, she finds only disgust, a written Emancipation Paper to sign, and a new daughter who now bears her own nickname. Her mother's love is gone, and Luna's existence, she is told, is pain to the woman who once gave her life twice.

Having decided not to live, Luna lets a die choose her final destination, and it settles on the sea.

She said she worked three jobs a day to raise me, but I would favor my father and his mistress when I grew up, leaving her to die alone in a Nursing Home.
