Born with cerebral palsy, she has been the anchor dragging her family down: medical bills swallowing every dollar, a father coughing through a flu he refuses to treat, a mother buying only two chicken wings because they are for her. Chloe, the golden child, wore hand-me-downs and carried her on her back to school for twelve years, while their parents' love tipped entirely in her favor.

Now she knows why Chloe ran. She writes a farewell to her sister, asking her to come home, and leaves an apology for her parents before swallowing a bottle of sleeping pills. Her soul drifts through the apartment, watching the family she believes she has freed.
