A woman once entered a book world and spent ten years winning over Aidan Sterling, a man broken by a childhood abandoned in a psychiatric hospital. When she finally succeeded, she chose to exit, leaving him behind. Now back in the real world, her life has collapsed, and the System returns with an offer: five million dollars to re-enter the book and make Aidan fall for her again.

The System's real aim is to cast the woman as the villain, an obstacle to the happy couple, for a mere fifty thousand dollars. She accepts anyway, needing the money for ICU treatment.

Returning to the apartment she once shared with Aidan, she finds it unchanged, yet a For Sale sign hangs in the window. When she calls to buy it, Sophie answers. Meeting the couple, she sees Aidan's cold indifference and Sophie's quiet superiority. The woman must decide whether to play the fool in a story already written against her.
