Ten years after their divorce, Mata runs into her ex-husband Alex at a nightclub, where he is buying drinks for the whole venue to celebrate Rose's birthday. Mata is there as a delivery driver, and Alex pretends not to see her until she kneels to beg for a five-star rating. He mocks her gaunt face and asks why she would rather deliver food than stay married to him.
Rose, now at Alex's side, taunts Mata about the divorce, while Alex demands sincerity and threatens that he will only pay for a grand funeral when she dies. Old memories surface: Alex once accused Mata of drugging him to steal a billion-dollar deal, destroyed her family's business, and after their divorce her parents jumped from a company rooftop. Now diagnosed with late-stage stomach cancer, Mata needs money for the last treatment slot.
When her supervisor fires her for offending Rose, Mata collapses, and the hospital gives her three days to pay the balance.
