For eight years, Vivian Archer has endured everything for Mason: his coldness in public, his devotion to Sophia, the humiliations she swallows in silence. She believes his promises that one day he will marry her. Then, pregnant and alone, she overhears him in his office, offering Sophia a plan to fake his death for three years and give Sophia a child, before returning to Vivian. She goes to the hospital alone and ends the pregnancy.

When Mason drags her home after she hands the ring to Sophia in a mascot costume, he still thinks she is throwing a tantrum. He does not know the baby is gone, or that the Vivian who waited eight years is gone too. She sits across from Nathan, the boss of a rival company, and asks to switch companies.

Mason still believes he can smooth everything over, but Vivian has stopped waiting.
