Chloe has always had a terrible sense of direction, and the people closest to her treat it as a flaw to be cured. Her best friend Sasha, her foster brother Julian, and Ethan, the neighbour who once promised she would always find her way home, stage "training" exercises that leave her stranded in malls and stations while they slip away.

When the three of them vanish from a restaurant and leave Chloe to find her own way back, the joke finally wears thin. At home they are eating ice cream and arguing over who gets to drive Sasha, and neither Julian nor Ethan asks how she managed the trip alone. Then Julian lets slip that on the day she was lost at the mall, they were helping Sasha try on dresses.

Quietly, Chloe stops waiting to be found and submits her application for a study abroad program.
