From the back cover
Mike has always been the one person Vivian Saunders, the untouchable school belle, let close. Then Leon Kallen transfers in, and everything shifts. When Vivian's family enemy takes Leon hostage on campus, she throws herself in front of him and takes the blade meant for him, leaving Mike standing outside the crowd as the object of everyone's mockery.
Months later, Vivian still believes Mike has been waiting for her. In truth, he filed his paperwork to leave the country the very night she was wounded. When he refuses to delay his departure until Leon's leg heals, Vivian retaliates by having his father fired from the Saunders family, then offers to marry him instead. To her, his coldness is only a bid for attention.
An anonymous benefactor keeps offering Mike a way out, and an invitation from Walter Saunders draws him to a party where Leon flaunts what he and Vivian share. One punch later, Vivian demands an apology and assumes Mike's indifference is a game. He is done playing it.
Inside the book Opening excerpt
Then the new transfer student showed up. He was always engineering ways to run into her, showing off right in front of her.
Everyone said a newcomer could never replacethe person who had grown up beside her. Whatever games the transfer student played, they were bound to be a waste of time.
Until the school belle's family enemy slipped onto campus and took the transfer student hostage.
She lost every last bit of composure and threw herself in front of him, taking the blade meant for him instead.
