Recovering from childbirth, a wife is given a beautiful android nanny named Ruby, bought by her husband Martin Summerland to care for her and the baby. At first she wants Ruby returned, but after a month of flawless service she agrees to keep her.

That night, she wakes to her son Samson's crying and finds Ruby with Martin, who silences the baby with a pillow. When she reports Ruby's malfunction to Syntek Robotics, the android turns on her, scalding her face with soup and turning Martin against her. He threatens her family's company and lets Ruby drug Samson with sleeping pills, then locks her away from her son.

As Samson's fever worsens, she can only beg to be freed.
