At a party with his fiancée Jenna and her friends, Creed steps away only to overhear them mocking him in Spanish, a language they believe he cannot understand. They joke that Jenna is cheating with Leo, her longtime guy-best-friend, and Creed realizes the truth: his mother is from Puerto Rico, and he has understood every word.

Jenna returns flushed and satisfied, Leo's arm draped over her shoulder, and her friends press her for details. When she casually asks Creed to fetch her a morning-after pill, he tells her they should postpone the wedding. She mistakes his cold calm for devotion, and her friends laugh at the fool they take him for.

The next day Jenna leads him into a state park, pretending to need a bathroom, while Leo waits to meet her. Creed follows and watches them together in the woods, then turns to leave, having already asked his boss for a transfer to the Paris office.

"This idiot has no idea he's being cheated on," one laughed. Another added, "I bet Jenna and Leo are really going at it. She said Creed isn't as big as Leo anyway. Poor fool—we're tearing him apart and he doesn't even know."

I stood frozen, my mind blank. Just then, Jenna walked in, flushed and satisfied. "How was it?" her friend asked in Spanish. "A thrill?"
