Her brother Thomas raised her alone, carrying her on his back, working part-time while he studied, and telling her the sun rises every day just as he would stay by her side. Then, on her eighth birthday, Thomas never came to the school gates. She was handed to a stranger named Robert, who told her they had been switched as babies and that he was her real brother, while Thomas was someone else's child.

People said Thomas had gone off in a luxury car to live the good life, and that Robert was the school bully the Davis family had kicked out. When a crowd cornered them and beat Robert, he turned his back and held Chris, refusing to let go until Thomas appeared and drove them off. Thomas carried her home, and Robert followed, insisting she was his sister. Behind a cracked door, Chris listened as the two brothers faced off over who would protect her.
