Vivian offers him a black card and later the apartment; her friends and Tristan mock every refusal, certain he is holding out for marriage into the Ford family.

With two days left in the city, Adrian accepts a three-year overseas posting and packs his life into two suitcases, while Vivian and her circle arrive to watch him fold.
