Frederick Burke banishes his wife Anastasia Sherman to a remote mountain to punish her for pushing his secretary, Colette Reeves, down the stairs. For five months she survives alone, eating worms, bugs and rotting carcasses, while Colette, who was meant to send her food each week, brings nothing and keeps a stack of invoices to prove otherwise.

When Frederick finally returns with a group to bring her home, Anastasia's body is already rotting from the radiation. Colette paints her as a manipulative woman starving herself for sympathy, and Frederick, who despises deceit, turns cold. He does not know that anyone who touches Anastasia will slowly begin to rot as well.

As they descend the mountain, Anastasia counts the days she has left, and the man who once adored her carries another woman on his back.
